115. Deputy Tom Hayes   asked the Minister for Social Protection when a decision on a child benefit appeal will issue to a person (details supplied) in County Tipperary; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [19576/12]
Minister for Social Protection (Deputy Joan Burton): The Social Welfare Appeals Office has advised me that following an oral hearing of the case in question, the Appeals Officer referred the case back to Child Benefit Section for further investigation and clarification on certain issues. A response to this request is awaited.
The Social Welfare Appeals Office functions independently of the Minister for Social Protection and of the Department and is responsible for determining appeals against decisions on social welfare entitlements.
