An Ceann Comhairle: Information on Séamus Pattison Zoom on Séamus Pattison Before coming to the Order of Business, I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 31 dealing with two different issues. I propose to deal with these separately and I will call on the Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office.

In regard to the first topic, I received notice from Deputy Connaughton and I call on him to state the matter.

Mr. Connaughton: Information on Paul Connaughton Zoom on Paul Connaughton I seek to move the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss a matter of urgent national importance, namely the devastating effects of the recent budget cutbacks on the Department of forestry which has resulted in a number of institutes of technology courses on forestry management, including that of the GMIT, being severely curtailed thus jeopardising the future employment of many young graduates who chose a career in forestry but who now find that the skill base modules of their courses have to be discontinued because of lack of funding.

[1375]An Ceann Comhairle: Information on Séamus Pattison Zoom on Séamus Pattison The matter is not in order under Standing Order 31. In regard to the second topic, I call Deputy Sargent.

Mr. Sargent: Information on Trevor Sargent Zoom on Trevor Sargent First, may I take this opportunity to wish you a peaceful and green Christmas, and a more sustainable and equitable 2003. Ba mhaith liom beannachtaí a ghabáil leat agus le gach Ball den Tí, leis on fhoiceann agus leis na tuairisceoirí nuachtán, raidio agus teilifíse.

I seek to move the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss an issue of urgent national importance, which has already been raised and on which I take it there will be widespread agreement, namely the breakdown in talks at Government Buildings between employer and union delegations allied to the fact that no commitment for a resumption of talks has been made.

An Ceann Comhairle: Information on Séamus Pattison Zoom on Séamus Pattison The matter is not in order under Standing Order 31.
