 196. Mr. Durkan Information on Bernard Durkan Zoom on Bernard Durkan  asked the Minister for Finance Information on Charlie McCreevy Zoom on Charlie McCreevy  if he will review the tax issue in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kildare who wishes to ascertain if repayments of tax could be extended to be repaid over a period of five or six years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24389/02]

Minister for Finance (Mr. McCreevy): Information on Charlie McCreevy Zoom on Charlie McCreevy I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer underpaid €2,050.58 income tax in the 1999-2000 tax year. It had been intended to collect the amount underpaid over three years. However, the inspector of taxes will now arrange to extend the collection period to four years, i.e. the taxpayer's tax credits will be reduced so as to collect €512.66 in 2003 and €512.64 in each of the three subsequent years. There are no grounds in this case for extending the time for collecting the amount underpaid to more than four years.
