181. Dr. Cowley asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the number of fallen animals as a whole from counties Mayo and Sligo taken to counties Meath, Cavan, Galway and Roscommon in 2000 and 2001. [24641/02]
Minister for Agriculture and Food (Mr. Walsh): The fallen animal collection scheme commenced on 1 July 2001 and the figures sought are available from that date only.
Fallen animals originating in Mayo during the July December 2001 period were sent to knackeries in the following counties:

The total on farm deaths recorded on the cattle movement monitoring system, CMMS, in 2000 was 96,917 of which 4,674 were recorded for County Mayo and 1,938 were recorded for County Sligo.
The total on farm deaths recorded on CMMS in 2001 was 131,385 of which 5,504 were recorded for County Mayo and 2,344 were recorded for County Sligo.
