 168. Mr. Gregory Information on Tony Gregory Zoom on Tony Gregory  asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food Information on Joe Walsh Zoom on Joe Walsh  the manner in which farmed fox and farmed mink are killed here; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24291/02]

Minister for Agriculture and Food (Mr. Walsh): Information on Joe Walsh Zoom on Joe Walsh Foxes are slaughtered by lethal injection or electrocution. Mink are slaughtered by the use of carbon monoxide gas. Both procedures are allowed under Schedule 6 of the EC (Protection of Animals at Time of Slaughter) Regulations, 1995 – S.I. No. 114 of 1995 – and under the Council of Europe recommendation concerning fur animals.
