228. Mr. Kehoe   asked the Minister for Education and Science if there is funding available for nursing students wishing to travel to England to study, in view of the fact that the UK Government training grant for EU students has ceased; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23215/02]
Minister for Education and Science (Mr. N. Dempsey): In 1996, the third level student support schemes, operated under the aegis of my Department, were extended to provide maintenance grants to eligible undergraduate students pursuing approved third level courses in other EU member states. Approved courses for this purpose are full-time undergraduate courses of not less than two years duration pursued in a university or third level institution which is maintained or assisted by recurrent grants from public funds.
Students pursuing undergraduate nursing studies in England may be considered under the schemes subject to the usual conditions of funding.
