McGrath Information on Paul McGrath Zoom on Paul McGrath  asked the Minister for Finance Information on Charlie McCreevy Zoom on Charlie McCreevy  the amount of income tax and PRSI payable by a single PAYE worker in each of the past five years where gross income in each year was an amount (details supplied), assuming only personal and PRSI allowances applicable. McGrath Information on Paul McGrath Zoom on Paul McGrath  asked the Minister for Finance Information on Charlie McCreevy Zoom on Charlie McCreevy  the number of taxpayers in the PAYE sector and self-employed who availed, per annum of the home caring spouse tax allowance since this tax relief was first introduced. [23409/02]

Minister for Finance (Mr. McCreevy): Information on Charlie McCreevy Zoom on Charlie McCreevy I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the relevant information available at this stage is in respect of PAYE taxpayers claiming the home carer's tax allowance and the position as at 29 October 2002 is as follows:

Claimants 117,180 107,146 98,708

The figures for 2001 and 2002 are not final figures and may be subject to change.

The corresponding information in respect of claimants who are self-employed taxpayers will not be available until the appropriate data from self-assessment tax returns for the income tax years 2000-01, 2001 and 2002 are received. However, the projected number of potential self-employed claimants is tentatively estimated as follows:
