[17904/96]

Minister for Defence (Mr. Barrett): Information on Seán Barrett Zoom on Seán Barrett Following a review of the measures taken to prevent the illegal transfer of cattle across the Border, the Government has decided to make greater use of Garda mobile patrols and checkpoints backed up where appropriate by mobile Army patrols. These combined with intelligence reports will produce equally satisfactory security in respect of cattle movements.

Military personnel on the Border are already in receipt of additional pay in the form of Border duty allowance. There is no proposal to change this.
