194. Ms F. Fitzgerald   asked the Minister for Justice if consideration will be given to increasing the presence of Garda foot patrols on the main streets in Dublin. [17860/96]
Minister for Justice (Mrs. Owen): The deployment of An Garda Síochána is the responsibility of the Garda authorities. I have been informed by them that the deployment of Garda personnel [1567] in the Dublin Metropolitan Area is under constant review by Garda management.
An extensive review of the deployment of personnel in the DMA was recently undertaken with a view to making a greater number of Garda personnel available for operational “on street” duties. I am also informed that the allocation of personnel to these duties will be determined by a Garda assessment of where the priority demand for a greater Garda presence exists.
