175. Mr. Callely   asked the Minister for Justice her views on whether violence against women should be compiled separately under the Garda crime statistics; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [17629/96]
Minister for Justice (Mrs. Owen): I am informed by the Garda authorities that information in relation to domestic violence is published in the Garda Commissioner's annual report on crime, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library. The question of improving the system to provide specific crime information in the format suggested by the Deputy will be considered in the light of the development of the Garda information technology strategy which is currently taking place.
