[18016/96]

Minister of State at the Department of the Environment (Ms McManus): Information on Liz McManus Zoom on Liz McManus I propose to take Questions Nos. 115 to 117, inclusive, together.

The present urban renewal scheme commenced in August 1994 and operates in 35 centres throughout the country. A comprehensive review of the impact, effectiveness and cost of the urban renewal schemes which have operated to date is currently under way to assist in the formulation of future policy in this area.

It is not intended that the current scheme will be extended to any additional towns or areas. It would be inappropriate to consider what new areas, if any, might be suitable for designation as part of any future scheme until general policy in relation to the next phase of urban renewal is determined in the light of the review.
