Ahern Information on Bertie Ahern Zoom on Bertie Ahern  asked the Taoiseach Information on John Bruton Zoom on John Bruton  the arrangements, if any, that were made for any member of the Government to act as Taoiseach during his absence on holidays in view of reports in a newspaper (details supplied). [16339/96]

The Taoiseach: Information on John Bruton Zoom on John Bruton Article 28.6.3º of the Constitution, states that the Tánaiste shall act for and in the place of the Taoiseach during the temporary absence of the Taoiseach.

This provision is availed of, as and when necessary, during any absence of mine from the country, including my absence on holiday. Naturally, I am available, by means of modern communications, to deal with any matter requiring my personal attention at all times, whether at home or abroad.
