 107. Mr. Shatter Information on Alan Shatter Zoom on Alan Shatter  asked the Minister for the Environment Information on Brendan Howlin Zoom on Brendan Howlin  the reason construction of the Southern Cross Route has not commenced; the steps, if any, being taken to resolve the outstanding difficulties; and when it is projected that construction will commence, be completed and the road opened for use. [12263/96]

Minister for the Environment (Mr. Howlin): Information on Brendan Howlin Zoom on Brendan Howlin High Court proceedings challenging the 1991 motorway scheme have not yet been determined. Both my Department and Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, who are now codefendants, are making every effort to have the outstanding issues resolved so that construction, which will be a matter for the National Roads Authority, can commence.
