 82. Mr. Gallagher (Laoighis-Offaly) Information on Pat Gallagher Zoom on Pat Gallagher  asked the Minister for Health Information on Michael Noonan Zoom on Michael Noonan  if he will support the establishment of an independent inspectorate for mental handicap services, similar to that which currently exists in Great Britain, as was recently called for at the Psychiatric Nurses' Association conference; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister of State at the Department of Health (Mr. O'Shea): Information on Brian O'Shea Zoom on Brian O'Shea As the Deputy may be aware, an inspectorate of social services will be established in the near future, attached to the Department of Health. While the inspectorate will give priority to quality assurance and the audit of child care practice, it is intended that it will, in time, develop a role in relation to standards of care in services for people with a disability and the dependent elderly.
