[4710/96]

Minister for Justice (Mrs. Owen): Information on Nora Owen Zoom on Nora Owen Recruitment to the position of prison officer is a matter for the Civil Service Commissioners who are independent in the discharge of their functions.

I am informed by the commissioners that the method of application for positions as prison officer is by way of response to public advertisement placed by them. The commissioners have no plans at present to advertise a competition for the recruitment of prison officers. The commissioners have informed me that my Department's recruitment requirements in the foreseeable future will be met from among those who made application to them in response to advertisements placed in September 1993 and April 1995.
