[34]52.

Mr. T.J. Fitzpatrick: Information on Thomas J. Fitzpatrick Zoom on Thomas J. Fitzpatrick (Cavan) asked the Minister for Local Government the date on which Cavan County Council ceased approving housing loans under the Housing (Loans and Grants) Act, 1962; and when he anticipates that the granting of such loans will be resumed.

Mr. Blaney: Information on Neil T.C. Blaney Zoom on Neil T.C. Blaney I understand that the council suspended approval to further house purchase loans on the 29th July last pending a general review by them of their capital requirements in relation to house purchase loans and supplementary grants; that the review has now been completed; and that the allocation of loans will be resumed shortly.

Mr. T.J. Fitzpatrick: Information on Thomas J. Fitzpatrick Zoom on Thomas J. Fitzpatrick (Cavan): Is the Minister aware that the county council informed borrowers in July that they were unable to grant loans because their allocation for the current financial year had been exhausted?

Mr. Blaney: Information on Neil T.C. Blaney Zoom on Neil T.C. Blaney The total amount paid and the amount estimated to be paid between now and the end of next March is £107,000, and the allocation is £105,000.

Mr. T.J. Fitzpatrick: Information on Thomas J. Fitzpatrick Zoom on Thomas J. Fitzpatrick (Cavan): That has been paid. According to Cavan County Council, they had committed themselves as far back as July last to lend all the money they had to lend for the current financial year. Does the Minister agree with that?

Mr. Blaney: Information on Neil T.C. Blaney Zoom on Neil T.C. Blaney I do not agree or disagree with it. It is payments we are talking about.

Mr. T.J. Fitzpatrick: Information on Thomas J. Fitzpatrick Zoom on Thomas J. Fitzpatrick (Cavan): Does the Minister not know?

Mr. Blaney: Information on Neil T.C. Blaney Zoom on Neil T.C. Blaney He does know. I am saying the total amount paid and the estimated amount that will fall to be paid between now and next March is £107,050, and our total allocation to the county council, to date, is £105,000.

Mr. T.J. Fitzpatrick: Information on Thomas J. Fitzpatrick Zoom on Thomas J. Fitzpatrick (Cavan): In blunt language, will the Minister tell the House when he will put Cavan [35] County Council in a position to resume the granting of housing loans?

Mr. Blaney: Information on Neil T.C. Blaney Zoom on Neil T.C. Blaney Actually by talking to them, I find they have now agreed to resume it themselves.
