7.

Mr. L'Estrange: Information on Gerald L'Estrange Zoom on Gerald L'Estrange asked the Minister for External Affairs if all the provisions of the Free Trade Agreement between this country and Britain are at present in operation.

The Taoiseach (for the Minister for External Affairs): Information on Seán F. Lemass Zoom on Seán F. Lemass All the provisions of the Free Trade Area Agreement between this country and Britain have entered into force and become operative in accordance with the terms of the Agreement.

Mr. L'Estrange: Information on Gerald L'Estrange Zoom on Gerald L'Estrange If they are in force, and if they are operative, what has happened to the promises made last January when we were told by the Taoiseach and by Government Ministers that we would have free and unfettered entry for the first time into the British market, and when the farmers were promised at least £5 more per head for their cattle and for their sheep? Does the Taoiseach now realise that the small farmers will shortly be annihilated? What has happened? What has gone wrong? What mistakes did the Government make in signing this Free Trade Agreement with Britain? Where now are all the glorious promises which were made last January? No reply. You should abdicate as well as threatening to resign.
