Mr. Connor: Information on Patrick Connor Zoom on Patrick Connor asked the Minister for Finance what criteria are used by him to decide the status of any one post in the public service relative to any other post; and if, in view of the fact that some civil servants receive special allowances, he will indicate in each case where a special allowance is paid the reason why it is paid.

Mr. J. Gibbons: Information on James M. Gibbons Zoom on James M. Gibbons Status within the Civil Service is determined by grading which is itself determined by reference [1486] to the duties and responsibilities of the particular posts. So far as the bulk of the Civil Service is concerned, namely, the arbitrable groups, issues of this kind may be processed under the agreed conciliation and arbitration machinery.

In regard to the second part of the question, the particulars sought are substantially contained in the Directory of State Services and the Appropriation Accounts.

Mr. Connor: Information on Patrick Connor Zoom on Patrick Connor Would the Parliamentary Secretary indicate the moneys paid and so forth? That is not a very satisfactory answer to my question. You cannot give me any indication of those figures.
