Mr. Moore: Information on Seán Moore Zoom on Seán Moore asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the position now obtaining regarding the Dublin traffic plan which was submitted by the German traffic consultant some time ago.

Mr. P. Brennan: Information on Patrick Brennan Zoom on Patrick Brennan I would refer the Deputy to my reply to his previous question on 15th March last on the subject. The report is still under consideration by the road authorities concerned and no decisions have been taken thereon. I understand that an estimate of the cost of land acquisition involved in the proposals contained in the report is being made by Dublin Corporation. At the same time a number of discussions have taken place at official level on some of the complex issues arising out of the report. I repeat that I am most anxious to assist in whatever way I can in this [1327] matter and my Department will be prepared to participate in any further discussions that may be deemed desirable.

Mr. O'Leary: asked the Minister for Local Government whether he will provide that heavy commercial and freight vehicles should be confined to certain prescribed traffic routes in the north side of the city of Dublin, as many roadways in residential areas are choked with heavy trucks.

Mr. P. Brennan: Information on Patrick Brennan Zoom on Patrick Brennan Under sections 89 and 90 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961, the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána may, with my consent, and after consultation with the local authority, make bye-laws for the control of traffic and parking in any specified area. I understand that the Commissioner does not consider that the making of bye-laws on the lines suggested by the Deputy is warranted.
