Mr. Kyne: Information on Thomas Anthony Kyne Zoom on Thomas Anthony Kyne asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that the Waterford County Council will, with the money sanctioned by his Department, be able to build only eight extra cottages in the coming year notwithstanding that there are over 60 approved applicants and a further 60 who are seeking approval for new cottages; and if in view of the dire need for accommodation he will consider sanctioning the proposals to complete the cottages for the 60 odd approved applicants.

Mr. P. Brennan: Information on Patrick Brennan Zoom on Patrick Brennan I am not so aware. I understand that the Waterford County Council expect to complete about 98 cottages in all in the current financial year, as compared with 42 last year.

The allocation in respect of new works was related to the number of tender proposals before the Department at the time of the making of the allocation. There are proposals to accept tenders for 21 cottages at present before the Department and the housing authority's decision is awaited as to which of these they wish to proceed with out of their present capital allocation. I understand that with savings on the amount allocated to commitments the housing authority expect to be able to proceed with 16 cottages.

In so far as approval to further tenders is concerned, the housing [19] authority have been informed that the position will be the subject of review in the light of the capital situation later in the year.
