73.

Mr. Harte: Information on Patrick D. Harte Zoom on Patrick D. Harte asked the Minister for Education what is the present position with regard to the erection of a new school at Termon, County Donegal.

Mr. Colley: Information on George Colley Zoom on George Colley The present school at Termon is a two-teacher school, and proposals for its replacement by a [980] new two-room building have been under consideration in my Department in relation to general policy on small schools. The question of amalgamating with the Termon school a one-teacher school in the same parish has been discussed with the Reverend Manager, and it appears that this would be feasible and that, therefore, a three-room school may be warranted at Termon.

The matter will be brought to decision very soon and if the decision entails a three-teacher school at Termon, the arrangements for providing the building will proceed.

74.

Mr. Davern: Information on Donal Davern Zoom on Donal Davern asked the Minister for Education when it is proposed to commence work on the building of the new school at Ballyheaffy, Araghlea, County Tipperary.

Mr. Colley: Information on George Colley Zoom on George Colley My Department will not be in a position to sanction a grant towards the cost of erecting this new school until satisfactory evidence of title to the site has been submitted by the Reverend Manager.

When the grant has been sanctioned the Commissioners of Public Works will have to prepare working drawings preparatory to the invitation of tenders.

I am not, therefore, in a position to say when the building of the new school will commence.

75.

Mr. Fahey: Information on John Fahey Zoom on John Fahey asked the Minister for Education if he will state the up-to-date position with regard to the provision of a new school at Crehana, Carrick-Beg, Carrick-on-Suir, County Tipperary.

Mr. Colley: Information on George Colley Zoom on George Colley The Commissioners of Public Works have accepted a tender for the erection of the new school, and they have been informed by the contractor that he will commence work on the building this week.
