Mr. L'Estrange: Information on Gerald L'Estrange Zoom on Gerald L'Estrange asked the Minister for Finance the annual petrol consumption in the State over the past five years.

Mr. Cluskey: Information on Frank Cluskey Zoom on Frank Cluskey asked the Minister for Finance the total number of gallons of petrol consumed in the State for each year since 1960.

Dr. Hillery: Information on Patrick John Hillery Zoom on Patrick John Hillery I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 24 and 25 together, and as the reply includes a tabular statement to circulate it, also with your permission, in the Official Report.

Following is the information:—

Particulars of actual petrol consumption are not available from [946] official records. However, the following quantities of mineral hydrocarbon light oil on which duty was paid approximate to petrol consumption for the years indicated. More than 99 per cent of mineral hydrocarbon light oil on which duty is paid consists of petrol.
