Business of Seanad

An Cathaoirleach: Information on Paddy Burke Zoom on Paddy Burke I have received notice from Senator Trevor Ó Clochartaigh, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

Go dtabharfaidh Aire Ealaíon Oidhreachta agus Gaeltachta míniú an bhfuil sé i gceist ag an rialtas gníomhú ar mholtaí an Choimisinéara Teanga maidir le feidhmiú éifeachtach na h-oifige sin sula gceapfar comharba dó.

I have also received notice from Senator Averil Power of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Finance to outline if he supports the proposal for a public register of the beneficial owners of companies, if he will support the inclusion of a requirement in the EU anti-money laundering directive for all members states to maintain such public registers; and if he will establish such a public register in Ireland in the interim in order to help curtail money-laundering and tax evasion.

I have also received notice from Senator Mark Daly of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice and Equality to outline the changes the Government is proposing for direct provision as the current system is unsatisfactory.

I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment and they will be taken at the conclusion of business.

An Cathaoirleach: Information on Paddy Burke Zoom on Paddy Burke Yes.

Senator Darragh O'Brien: Information on Darragh O'Brien Zoom on Darragh O'Brien The Cathaoirleach has not started the clock, excellent. I cannot agree to the Order of Business. What is the rationale for taking Committee and Remaining Stages of the Finance Bill? Yesterday we had a decent Second Stage debate with the Minister of State, Deputy Brian Hayes. We have a number of substantial amendments tabled and we will have no-----

Senator Paul Coghlan: Information on Paul Coghlan Zoom on Paul Coghlan Recommendations.

Senator Darragh O'Brien: Information on Darragh O'Brien Zoom on Darragh O'Brien Is Senator Paul Coghlan finished? It is not sensible to guillotine the Bill. The Leader is proposing to shut down a debate on the Finance Bill. Yesterday, we highlighted that the Bill contains some serious measures. For example, an increase in the pension levy, a reduction in tax relief on health insurance and a massive change in the one-parent tax credit that will affect about 15,000 families.
