17.
Mr. Lindsay: asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for delays in payment of housing grants and reconstruction grants where the work has been completed and payment sanctioned.
Mr. Blaney: I am not aware of any undue delay in the payment of grants.
Mr. Lyons: If the Minister is not aware of it, every Deputy in the country is aware of it.
Mr. Blaney: I happen to be a Deputy myself and I am not aware of it, so you can count at least one out. I have invited Deputies if there is undue delay in their areas to communicate with me directly.
Mr. Clinton: Is the Minister aware that I have half a dozen such cases in my pocket at the moment?
Mr. Blaney: Do not keep them in your pocket.
Mr. Clinton: I cannot get anything done about them because they say they have no money to pay.
Mr. L'Estrange: Westmeath County [195] Council applied for £75,000 and got only £60,000.
Mr. Blaney: We are talking here about grants from the Department to individuals.
Mr. L'Estrange: There is a definite delay.
Mr. Blaney: There is not.
Mr. L'Estrange: The Minister will not cod the people by keeping the truth from them.
Mr. Blaney: I am telling the truth. To my knowledge there is no undue delay in the payment of grants.
Mr. Dillon: Deputy Don Davern seems to think there is, according to Question No. 18.
