2.

Mr. Ryan: Information on Richie Ryan Zoom on Richie Ryan asked the Taoiseach if he will state with reference to the information published in the Statistical Abstract as to the amount of money advanced on house mortgages annually by building societies the number of houses in each of the years 1958 to 1962, inclusive, in respect of which such advances were made.

3.

Mr. Ryan: Information on Richie Ryan Zoom on Richie Ryan asked the Taoiseach the amount advanced by building societies on house mortgages in each of the years 1963 and 1964; and the number of houses covered thereby.

Mr. Carty: Information on Michael Carty Zoom on Michael Carty I propose, with your permission, Sir, to take Questions Nos. 2 and 3 together and to circulate in the Official Report a statement showing the amount of advances on mortgages and the number of mortgages in each year 1958 to 1964. The 1964 figures are provisional.

Advances by building societies are made upon security of freehold or leasehold estate by way of mortgage and, therefore, the advances are not necessarily all in respect of residential property. Separate data for the amount of money advanced on house mortgages and the number of houses in respect of which such mortgages were made are not available.

Following is the statement:—

1958 1,499 1,759
1959 2,326 2,176

1961 2,934 2,291
1962 4,327 2,820
